President Clinton, I believe, was the first president to favor abortion. I wondered for years how a world leader, and a supposedly religious person, could pass bills entitling mothers to kill their own babies. In fact I wrote him a letter early in his first term as president, and tried to relate what the Bible states about conception and innocent life. How "against God" abortion is. About six months later, I got a form letter from the White House thanking me for my input - period.
Recently I read the book "How the Clinton Clergy Corrupted a President" by Moody Adams. Clinton was extremely close to Dr. W.O. Vaught, his pastor in Arkansas. Clinton was always searching for older male role models. In Rev. Vaught he found an older role model he trusted.
When Clinton was Governor of Arkansas he approached Vaught for advice on the abortion issue. As Moody Adams states in his book:
"When Clinton was confronting the abortion issue, he again turned to his pastor for guidance. Clinton agreed with the pro-choice argument. But he had second thoughts, despite being influenced by the strong pro-choice women surrounding him, including Hillary and Betsy Wright. He wanted Dr. Vaught to give him the Bible's insights on the issue. Vaught said the meaning of life and birth and personhood came from Hebrew words which mean "to breathe life into." He concluded that life does not begin until there is breath; therefore, abortion cannot be murder. Because of this belief, Vaught became a crusader for a woman's right to an abortion. Clinton accepted Vaught's interpretation and concluded there was nothing Biblically wrong with abortion, not even with a partial birth abortion, because those babies have not breathed. His trusted pastor's interpretation settled Clinton's pro-abortion stance."
Man, talk about bad advice, this one takes the cake. There are at least 20 verses in the Bible that are anti-abortion (see our article on abortion on this site). In God's eyes the baby does not need breathe to be a living human being. He considers the baby to be a human being right from conception.
I would think a clergy member would know this through training, or reading the Bible, or just by his or her conscience. How a clergy member can advise somebody in their congregation that killing unborn children, taking the life of an innocent, is acceptable by God, and still call themselves clergy - is a travesty.
With the eight great years of economy and no major conflicts, Bill Clinton may have been rated as one of the top presidents in history. But because of the bad advice he got as a young politician on abortion, and other things, from older people he trusted, and because of his lying, he went down the tubes. It's a shame.
If you go to a church that preaches abortion is OK - run - don’t walk from that church.
And if you believe in God, and you're not sure why abortion is wrong - again, read our article on abortion on this site. It's all taken from the Bible.
