What is Christianity? Christianity is the acknowledgment that Jesus Christ is the son of God, that he died for our sins, that he was resurrected, and that all who believe in him will receive the gift of eternal life in heaven with God.
Jesus lived about 2,000 years ago in the land of Israel. He was the Messiah - the Christ - who was promised by the prophets of the Old Testament of the Bible. The New Testament of the Bible describes the life and teachings of Jesus. The Bible explains that we are all sinners and that therefore we all are in need of forgiveness and salvation. Salvation is found in Jesus and in Jesus alone (Acts 4:12).
Below are some examples of Christian beliefs, and you can learn more about Jesus and Christianity at about-jesus.org.
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; (Romans 3:23 KJV)
But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. (Isaiah 59:2 KJV)
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23 KJV)
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (John 3:16-18 KJV)
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (Acts 4:12 KJV, in reference to Jesus Christ)
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6 NIV)
Who can be saved? You. You can be saved. Your family can be saved. Everyone can be saved. Anyone can be saved. Here are some quotes from Jesus, as recorded in the New Testament of the Bible, that help explain this:
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: (Matthew 28:19 KJV)
He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. (Mark 16:15-16 NIV)
And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. (Luke 24:47 KJV)
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. (John 3:17 KJV)
Many people ask: What must I do to be saved? The answer: believe in Jesus. Salvation is found in Jesus and in Jesus alone. Here are some Bible verses that help explain this:
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. (Mark 16:16 KJV)
That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9 NIV)
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16 KJV)
