The Heavens and Earth prove God and Creation

Want proof there is a God? Just look around you. The delicately balanced solar system, the rainfall that gives us crops, the design of the human body, the miracle of birth, drinking water and oil both coming out of the earth, etc. You don't have to be a brain surgeon to figure out all this did not happen by chance, but was designed by a Super Creator. As Henry M. Morris writes in his book "God and the Nations:"

" Noting the provision of rain to water the earth and fertile ground from which to produce food for all the animals as well as people, of light and warmth from the sun, of gentile breezes, of rivers and oceans, of refreshing sleep at night, the fantastic process of reproduction, and any number of other good things, that person could easily conclude that the mighty Creator was also a being of mercy and goodness , as well as power and wisdom. In the words of Paul the apostle, when preaching to pagans at Lystra, "He left not Himself without witness, in that He did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness" (Acts 14:17).

Of course, one would observe that occasionally there were violent storms as well as gentile breezes, scorching heat and bitter cold, dry deserts as well as fertile plains, suffering and death along with birth and joy, not to mention wars and fighting. Somehow that wise, powerful, merciful God could also be angry and allow pain in His creation. A person without any Bible or revelation could learn much about God merely by observing nature - assuming he was interested in learning about God.

The classic verse that proceeds the terrible indictment of the post-Babel apostasy (Rom. 1:21-32) is as follows: "For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse" (Rom. 1:20)

Those attributes of God which cannot be seen directly - His power, wisdom, mercy, etc. as well as His holiness, wrath, etc. - can be seen and should be seen indirectly, merely by observing and pondering His creation. And it is inexcusable not to see, because they are everywhere to be seen by those with seeing minds and hearts.

The classic verse of Romans !:20 is often cited as evidence of this by Christians, but only in relation to the tremendous size and complexity of God's creation. Actually, there is more to it than just that, though even that is a true and tremendous blessing. But the verse says that "even His eternal power and Godhead" are "clearly seen." Just how is that?

With reference to God's "eternal power," God is omnipotent, and this has to be evident from the fact that all the mighty stars of heaven (and think of each of them as a sun giving out tremendous energy continually, like our sun) had a Creator able to impart their power to them in the first place, and that He has made at least 10 million billion billion such suns. And then ponder the fact that they will all eventually burn out, when all their mighty power will be dispersed through space as low temperature heat. Evolutionists do have notions about how new stars might be formed, but they never have observed such a thing to actually happen. All that astronomers can observe happening is stars burning out - sometimes very rapidly in stellar explosions - never do they see new stars appear where none were there before.

In fact, the whole universe is in a state of decay and will eventually die, if present processes continue long enough, and scientists have called this fact the "second law" (the "first law" is the law of conservation of quantity of energy and power, the "second law" is the law of decay or decreasing availability of that energy and power). These laws (or even just the observed fact of universal decay) should make it obvious that the universe and all its mighty sources of power had a beginning, otherwise it would already be dead. It is not creating itself, so the source of its power is not in time - not temporal power. Its Creator, therefore, must be one who has eternal power. Therefore, God's "eternal power" has been "clearly seen" "from the creation of the world."

And the fact that the Creator must be a personal being, and not an impersonal power source, is evident from the fact - also common to both science and universal experience - that every effect must have a cause equal to or greater than itself. The Creator of infinite suns each with great power must have power greater than all - essentially omnipotent. Similarly, the Creator of billions of individual human brings must be a great being Himself, greater than all those He has created.

Consequently, it is not presumptuous but realistic to conclude with the Psalmist that "the fool hath said in his heart. There is no God" (Psalm 14:1)

It is inexcusable for a rational person not to see God and His eternal power just from creation alone. "
