Often we wonder why bad things happen to good people.
Sometimes a child is born profoundly handicapped, and sometimes people ask, "What possible use can he or she serve?" The reality – each of us has a God-given purpose. In the case of a profoundly handicapped person, that person may be carrying a cross for another soul who could not, or would not, carry his own cross. If that’s the case, then he indeed has a very Holy mission here on earth that only he can accomplish.
Here’s an ultimate example: Mary was chosen to be the Mother of Jesus. But she paid a terrible price for this incredible blessing. She watched as her Son Jesus was forced to carry His cross to be crucified. And she was there at the base of the cross when the Romans crucified Jesus, which has to be the most terrible sight that any parent could experience.
Again, people could say "how can such things be?" Yet we know today that Christ's crucifixion and resurrection redeemed our souls, and gave us everlasting life and opened up the gates of Heaven.
Here you can see that God draws good out of tragedy.
So if you have had tragedy in your life, God can draw something good from this. We may not know what form that good could possibly take, but there will come a day when every mystery in life will be revealed to us.
