Many of us today are crying out for peace. Not only peace in the world but also peace at home. There seems to be no peace anywhere. No matter how hard we try, how many peace demonstrations we march in, how many peace pacts our leaders sign - there is no peace.
At home there is no peace either. No matter how much money we make (if we are lucky enough to have a good job), how many cars and houses we buy, how hard we try to protect our families and live the good life - there really is no peace.
Well this generation is not experiencing anything new. 2000 years ago the disciples who walked with Christ had no peace either. There was nothing peaceful about the storm that rocked the boat on the Sea of Galilee, until Jesus rebuked the storm. There was nothing peaceful during those last days in Jerusalem before the Crucifixion. There was nothing peaceful in not living in their own homes, and not knowing where they will be sleeping or where and what their next meal would be.
All through the four Gospels the disciples had fear and were not at peace. But notice the change in the Book of Acts. In the first few verses of chapter 2, the disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit. Between this event, and the fact their fear was conquered by the Resurrection of Jesus seven weeks prior (read our commentary on 4/25/04 "Fear Conquered the Forgotten Miracle") a great peace settled over the disciples - an inner peace.
Today, we understand peace as money, health, a job, a paid up mortgage and car. But Jesus gave a peace the world cannot understand - an inner peace. A peace so beautiful that a group of men, that were touched by the Holy Spirit, and given inner peace by His presence, traveled the known world without any money, no house to return to, and probably without a camel, spreading the Gospel. They were beaten, stoned, and whipped, but that inner peace drove them on until they died.
There are many people today who have that inner peace. They may have a lot of money, or no money at all. They may be healthy, or on their deathbed. It doesn’t seem to make any difference, they know their final outcome will be walking with Jesus in Heaven.
Would you like to have this inner peace? Its there for the taking! And it’s free! Try it! Experience it! Ask Jesus for it! Turn your life over to Him. If you don’t know how, or are not sure how to ask Him for it. Read our commentary on 4/18/04, Abandonment of Your Will to God (praying for salvation), and repeat the prayer in the third from last paragraph.
God Bless You
